What the app does for you

Wind Ready features: wind forecasts, custom alerts and tide information

A useful wind forecast is one you can turn into a plan. Wind Ready brings your spot, preferred conditions and available hours together, then helps you find and follow a matching window.

Spend less time checking. Find a time that fits.

You might want lighter winds for a morning paddle, or stronger wind for an afternoon sail. A promising forecast is only useful if it lines up with your location, preferences and free time. Wind Ready is a wind forecast and custom wind alerts app for iPhone built around that question: when does the forecast match my plans?

If you are comparing the best wind forecast apps, start with the job you need done. Wind Ready is a useful choice when you want personal forecast-window alerts and planning tools. A broad weather map, live station feed and wind-window finder serve different needs; compare the features that matter to your activity.

Choose your wind, in either direction

Set wind below a personal maximum for kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing or casual boating. Set wind above a chosen minimum for kitesurfing, windsurfing or sailing. Add your preferred direction, days and hours so a match relates to a period you could actually use.

For example, a fictional rule might look for wind below 10 kt between 7 AM and 10 AM on Saturday. Another could look above a personal minimum during a Sunday afternoon. These examples explain the controls, not safe limits. Your experience, equipment and local conditions determine what is appropriate.

Find a full window, then inspect the details

Wind Ready looks for forecasts matching your whole selected period, with opportunities up to 14 days ahead where data is available. The best match appears first. If your full period does not match, shorter options can help you see whether adjusting your plans would be worthwhile. Check the duration: a shorter option is different from a match covering every hour you selected.

Saved spots keep favourite beaches, lakes, bays and launch points together. Wind speed, gusts and direction give you the wind picture at each spot, with forecast details available to inspect. Search for a place or drop a map pin to choose your location; you can do this without granting location permission.

Discovery alerts find opportunities; monitoring follows your choice

With Pro, discovery alerts tell you when periodic forecast checks find new windows matching your rules. Their value is reducing repeated manual searching. These are forecast alerts, not immediate alarms from a wind sensor at your launch point.

Once you choose a window, Pro monitoring helps you follow that particular plan with reminders, an opening alert when forecast conditions match, and condition-change updates. Activity keeps upcoming and past monitored windows together, making it easier to return to the plan you were following.

Share a window with someone you are heading out with, or add it to your calendar. Sharing and calendar entries help organise an outing; they do not freeze the forecast. Recheck the details as the time approaches.

See weather context and nearby tide predictions

Wind is the starting point. Additional conditions include air temperature, UV information, sunrise and sunset, with water temperature where supported and included in your access. This context helps you consider daylight and conditions alongside the wind, without treating a wind match as a complete assessment of the outing.

Tide predictions are available where supported. Enable tides for a spot to review nearby predicted high and low tides, times and available height information. Weather forecasts are supplied by Open-Meteo; tide predictions are supplied by WorldTides. Provider names identify the data sources and do not imply endorsement.

A tide prediction is not a measurement of water depth at your exact pin. A predicted height uses its stated reference level, such as chart datum. Tide times and heights do not establish local currents, clearance or navigational safety. Coverage can be unavailable for inland or unsupported locations; consult authoritative local tide, current and navigation information when relevant.

Use familiar units and control interruptions

Choose wind units in knots, mph, km/h or m/s, temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, and a 12- or 24-hour clock. These display choices let you read the forecast and limits in the terms you use for your activity.

Quiet hours pause notifications during the times you select. Alerts need Pro access, notification permission and an internet connection. Device settings, connectivity, forecast availability and notification delivery services can affect arrival times.

What to know about coverage and updates

Open-Meteo selects weather-model data for the requested location. Available forecast detail and useful range vary by location and provider coverage. Wind Ready's planning range is up to 14 days where data is available; this does not promise equal detail or accuracy for every day or spot.

Forecast charts can contain hourly values, but an hourly forecast value is not a promise that a notification arrives at a particular minute. Wind Ready periodically checks forecast data; model updates, matching rules, quiet hours and delivery all matter. No alert should be taken to mean conditions have stayed unchanged.

Free and Pro: what is included?

Wind Ready is free to download on iPhone. Free includes one saved spot and today's wind forecast. Pro adds multiple saved spots, extended forecast planning, automatic alerts and window monitoring. Eligible users can try Pro for 14 days with no payment and no automatic charge. Current subscription prices and eligibility are shown in the app.

Compatibility and common questions

What device do I need?

The public App Store listing is for iPhone, in English, and requires iOS 16.4 or later. Check the App Store listing for current compatibility and subscription options.

Can I use Wind Ready for fishing or boating?

Yes. A personal maximum-wind rule can help find lighter-wind forecast windows for fishing or casual boating. Review gusts, direction, available tide information and official conditions separately; a match is not a safety recommendation.

Does Wind Ready include tides?

Yes, nearby tide predictions are available where supported. They add planning context alongside the wind forecast. They are not live water-level measurements, tide-current routing or navigation advice.

Is Wind Ready the best weather forecast app for everyone?

Different apps solve different problems. Wind Ready is built for finding wind forecast windows and receiving custom wind alerts that fit personal conditions and availability. If detailed radar, live station observations or specialist navigation are essential, compare those requirements separately.

Wind Ready uses weather-model forecasts, not live wind measurements. Forecasts can change and local conditions may differ. It supports planning; it is not an emergency warning service or a guarantee of safe conditions. Check official warnings and local conditions before heading out.
