A lighter-wind opportunity that fits your plans
Repeatedly opening the forecast can become part of organising a paddle or fishing trip. Wind Ready lets you save the conditions you are looking for and the hours you can get out. Its below-threshold setting is useful when you want to look for lighter winds at a lake, beach, bay or launch point.
Set up a lighter-wind preference
- Choose the exact spot. Search for a place or drop a pin near the location you want to plan for.
- Choose a maximum wind speed. Select a below-threshold rule and the display units you prefer.
- Set your direction, days and hours. Use your own knowledge of the location and your availability.
- Review the forecast windows. Look at the wind, gusts and direction, then inspect a window in more detail.
- Monitor a chosen window. With Pro, follow that opportunity for reminders and forecast-change updates.
An example of the controls
You might ask the app to look for forecast wind below 10 kt between 7 AM and 10 AM on Saturday at a saved lake. That example explains the settings; 10 kt is not a recommended or universally safe limit for kayaking, paddleboarding or fishing.
Wind Ready looks for forecasts matching the whole selected period. If the full period does not match, it may show shorter options separately. Read the window details before turning an opportunity into a plan.

What to review before heading out
A low average wind forecast is only one part of your decision. Review gusts, wind direction and changes through the period, along with official warnings and the conditions at the location. Extra weather details and tide predictions are available where supported. Wind Ready does not decide whether your outing is safe.
Free and Pro: what is included?
Wind Ready is free to download on iPhone. Free includes one saved spot and today's wind forecast. Pro adds multiple saved spots, extended forecast planning, automatic alerts and window monitoring. Common questions
Can I get alerts when the forecast is below my limit?
Yes. With Pro access, a saved below-threshold preference can produce alerts when new matching forecast windows are found. You also need notification permission and an internet connection; quiet hours apply.
Is the app measuring the wind at my launch point?
No. Wind Ready uses weather-model forecasts. Inspect official forecasts and local observations when planning your trip.
Wind Ready uses weather-model forecasts, not live wind measurements. Forecasts can change and local conditions may differ. It supports planning; it is not an emergency warning service or a guarantee of safe conditions. Check official warnings and local conditions before heading out.
