Information Wind Ready uses
Wind Ready stores saved spots, coordinates, alert rules and preferences on your device. It uses a pseudonymous account identifier to sync alert settings, spot coordinates, push notification tokens, monitoring sessions, notification records and subscription access with its backend. Technical service providers may also receive information such as IP addresses when requests are made.
Location permission is optional and helps suggest nearby spots. You can search or enter a location manually. Wind Ready does not request background location access.
Why information is used
Information is used to retrieve forecasts, identify wind windows that match your selected rules, deliver notifications, monitor windows you choose, maintain subscription access, prevent abuse and support the service.
Country-level planning information
Wind Ready may use aggregated counts based on the country or broad region of saved spots to plan support for additional countries. A saved spot does not establish where a user lives, their nationality or their current location. Internal reports do not include exact coordinates or account identifiers and suppress regions represented by fewer than five accounts. This reporting is not used to make decisions about individual users or sell targeted advertising.
Weather accuracy and service performance
To improve Wind Ready, we may retain a limited sample of forecasts already retrieved, including forecast-grid coordinates, weather values and times, and compare them with appropriately sourced station, buoy or other weather datasets. These research records do not include account identifiers, saved-spot names, push tokens or IP addresses. Grid locations and times can still describe geographic usage patterns. We also use aggregate request counts, response times, cache and error statistics. This research is used for app accuracy and performance, not advertising or profiling.
Daily cleanup removes forecast samples older than 35 days and aggregate service metrics and imported reference readings older than 90 days. These research records are not linked to accounts and cannot be individually located by account-deletion requests. Service-provider backup retention is separate.
App errors and notification diagnostics
In versions with diagnostic reporting enabled, Wind Ready sends limited screen and error categories, app version and build, platform, event times and notification-open outcomes to Supabase to find faults and improve reliability. These reports are linked to your app account for security and deletion. They do not include saved-spot names, coordinates, search text, notification message text, authentication tokens or arbitrary error messages. Daily cleanup removes phone reports older than 30 days; account deletion removes associated phone reports. A short bounded queue on the phone expires after 48 hours.
Enabled iOS versions also use Sentry for filtered native crash reports, including code stack information, app version and build, operating-system version and device model. We do not intentionally attach your account identifier or a persistent device identifier to those crash reports. Screenshots, session replay and performance tracing are disabled, and Sentry is configured not to store IP addresses in events. Network providers still process requests to deliver the service. Crash events follow Sentry's plan-specific retention, normally 30 days on its free Developer plan; trial plans may retain them longer. Because these crash reports are not linked to your app account, account deletion cannot identify them individually. Provider backups have separate retention.
Diagnostic data is used for app functionality and reliability, not advertising or tracking across other companies' apps and websites. Notification-open reports indicate a requested action, not guaranteed delivery or completed screen display.
Optional calendar availability
In versions that offer Calendar availability, this optional feature starts off. You choose calendars already available on your phone and explicitly connect them to filter matching forecasts and new-match alerts for all your spots. Wind Ready reads events on your phone and sends only merged busy start/end times, the time range checked, sync timestamps and a random sync-request identifier to your account in Supabase. The identifier helps recover safely from interrupted uploads; it is not a calendar or event identifier. Event titles, notes, locations, attendees and calendar or event identifiers are not uploaded. Busy times are linked to your pseudonymous Wind Ready account and used only to provide this feature, not advertising, trial analytics or crash reporting.
Selected calendar identifiers and sync preferences are kept in protected storage on this phone. This feature does not save event details or busy-time snapshots to local storage and does not create, edit or delete events. The separate Add to calendar action uses the system calendar editor. Reading calendars on iPhone may require the permission Apple calls Full Access; this filter only reads.
Calendar availability syncs automatically when you open Wind Ready and through background tasks when your phone permits. An hourly background interval is requested, not guaranteed. Battery restrictions, force-quitting, network access and delays syncing your calendar provider can prevent fresh results. In versions supporting retained availability, matches and new alerts continue using the last successfully synced busy times within the checked date range, normally about 17 days ahead and never more than 18 days from upload. Recent calendar changes may not be reflected until the next successful sync. Dates outside that saved range are treated as unknown and wait for another sync. Earlier versions expire availability after 24 hours. Existing monitored-window reminders and updates, saved wind rules and quiet hours are unchanged.
Turning the feature off removes synced busy times when connected and restores normal future matching without replaying skipped opportunities. Revoking calendar permission clears local calendar selections and requests removal of synced busy times on the next successful connection; when offline, the previous snapshot expires independently. Expired busy intervals are removed by a cleanup job scheduled every ten minutes. The enabled or paused preference and sync revision remain so stale devices cannot overwrite your choice. Account deletion removes associated availability records. These deletion times refer to the active service, not immediate erasure of any restricted recovery copies or provider backups, which follow their separate retention and deletion cycles.
Private onboarding and trial reporting
In supported iPhone and Android versions with reporting enabled, Wind Ready reports fixed setup steps such as opening onboarding, reaching spot selection, viewing the forecast, choosing conditions, viewing the Pro offer and completing setup. Where a trial is available, it also reports eligibility checks, tapping Start and confirming access. Choosing Continue free or closing the offer is recorded too. Fixed failure categories help identify search, forecast, saving or activation problems. Reports include the screen group, event time, app version, build and platform, and are linked to your pseudonymous app account to count accounts once per step and remove their reports on account deletion. This is product analytics to improve onboarding and the trial experience; it does not grant or extend access, change alert rules, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
These reports contain no search text, raw error messages, payment details, spot names, coordinates, calendar information, screenshots or session recordings. The private owner dashboard displays aggregate step counts without account identifiers. The phone holds at most 40 pending onboarding or trial events for up to 48 hours and makes at most five send attempts. Daily cleanup removes server reports older than 30 days; account deletion removes associated reports. Recovery-copy and provider-backup retention is separate. Reporting is best effort and does not identify every download or prove that a user abandoned setup.
Service providers
Supabase provides backend services. Open-Meteo supplies forecast data. Place and map services process searches and map requests. Expo and Apple deliver notifications. Apple processes App Store purchases, and RevenueCat verifies subscription and entitlement status when paid billing is enabled. Wind Ready does not receive full payment-card details.
On Android, Google Maps processes map requests and associated device and service information. Firebase Cloud Messaging and Expo provide notification delivery, using installation identifiers and notification tokens. These services may receive IP addresses and technical request information. Paid Android subscriptions, when available, are processed by Google Play and verified through RevenueCat. Wind Ready does not receive full payment-card details.
Android map diagnostics
The Google Maps SDK on Android processes device and SDK metadata, IP addresses, an SDK-specific pseudonymous identifier, and SDK crash information to provide and improve Google services. Map camera interactions, such as panning and zooming, may also be processed. These are not advertising identifiers. Wind Ready does not include the Meta SDK or send app events to Meta. Firebase Cloud Messaging uses installation identifiers and notification tokens for Android notification delivery.
Android place search
On Android, place searches send your search text and, when used to prioritise nearby results, a location bias through Wind Ready's server to Google's Geocoding service. Results help you choose a spot. Google does not receive your Wind Ready account identifier, calendar details or purchase information for these search requests. Wind Ready keeps short-lived account-linked request counters to protect the service; those counters do not store your search text or coordinates. You can also choose a point on the map and name the spot yourself. Google processes its services under the Google Privacy Policy.
Android notification decision records
For Android accounts using the updated monitoring checks, Wind Ready keeps a limited history of the forecast conditions and check times used to decide whether a monitored window matches its saved wind speed and direction rules. These records are linked to your monitored window and private account so we can explain decisions and investigate inconsistencies. They do not contain calendar event details, spot coordinates, push tokens or advertising identifiers. At most 256 decision records are kept for a monitored window, and they are removed when that window or its account is deleted. Restricted recovery copies and service-provider backups follow their separate retention cycles.
Sharing a window
When you choose Share, Wind Ready stores a snapshot of the spot name, exact coordinates, selected wind limit, forecast window and display units in Supabase and creates a random short link. Anyone with that link can view or forward those details without an account. The public page does not expose your account identifier. We associate the stored snapshot with your account to limit misuse and remove it when you delete your account. Short links expire 30 days after the forecast window ends; expired snapshots are removed by daily cleanup. Service-provider backup retention is separate. Deleting a saved spot does not revoke a link you have already shared. Older links that contain the details directly, and copies or screenshots made by recipients, cannot be recalled by deleting your account. Shared details are a snapshot, not a live forecast. Cloudflare hosts the page, Supabase supplies stored snapshots, and both process requests needed to provide the service; your messaging service also processes links you send.
Free preview eligibility
On supported Apple devices, Wind Ready uses Apple's DeviceCheck service to help prevent repeated free previews. When you request a preview, a temporary device token is sent to our backend and Apple to check and record whether the device has already received a preview. We do not retain that token or use it for advertising. Apple maintains the device eligibility flag, which may remain after you reinstall the app or delete your Wind Ready account. We also keep preview usage with your account while it exists.
If eligibility appears incorrect, including on a second-hand phone, contact support@windready.app for a review. A support exception records your account identifier, a brief reason, its expiry and whether it was used; it is deleted with your account.
Android tester access
During Android testing, you may choose to share your tester ID with the test organiser to request temporary Pro access. The organiser uses that ID to locate your account and record the grant, its reason and expiry. The ID alone does not grant access. Tester access does not create a paid subscription or automatic charge.
Your choices
You can change location and notification permission in your phone settings, edit or remove saved spots, and delete your Wind Ready account from Settings. Account deletion removes associated active-service data, but does not cancel an App Store subscription. Subscriptions are managed through your Apple account. Account deletion does not reset Apple's device-level preview eligibility flag described above.
For Android subscriptions, when available, manage or cancel payment through Google Play. Deleting Wind Ready account data does not cancel a store subscription.
To request account deletion without using the in-app control, email support@windready.app with the subject “Wind Ready account deletion”. We need to verify that the account belongs to you before deleting it. Do not send passwords, sign-in codes or payment-card details. Because Wind Ready uses a guest account, we may be unable to identify or verify it if you have already removed the app and no longer have its account information.
Android subscription-record deletion
When you delete an Android account, a restricted queue retains its app-specific billing identifier while Wind Ready requests and confirms removal of the associated RevenueCat record. Temporary failures are retried. Where an identity may be shared with another account or platform, removal is held for review rather than risking deletion of someone else's access. The billing identifier is removed from the queue after provider absence is confirmed. Store transaction records, legally required records and restricted provider backups follow their separate retention rules. Deleting your Wind Ready account does not cancel a Google Play subscription.
Retention and overseas processing
Wind Ready keeps information only for as long as it is reasonably needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes and protect the service. Account data is scheduled for deletion when you use the in-app deletion control, subject to limited security records, legal requirements and provider backup cycles. Service providers may process information in Australia, the United States and other countries where they operate.
Access, correction and complaints
To request access to or correction of your information, ask a privacy question or make a complaint, email support@windready.app. Wind Ready will review privacy requests and respond within a reasonable period. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
